Tank support

The tank must be securely mounted on a level and stable surface for support. Sufficient tank support can help prevent possible spillages and allow the heating system to run smoothly.

The level surface should:

  • Be larger than the size of the tank

  • Be made of hard material such as concrete or paving stones

  • Hold the weight of the tank and its contents

Where can your tank be located?

Domestic heating oil tanks can be stored indoors, outdoors and underground in compliance with Building Regulations. Fire protection oil tanks can be stored inside, making it less visible to intruders.

Many of our heating oil customers don’t need to be in to receive a heating oil top up if the tank is accessible for the Delivery driver. If you have any special delivery requirements, please make sure you highlight these when ordering to avoid any issues. Our drivers will need to have access to your gates and tank for delivery. You can either unlock your tank before delivery or provide us with combinations to locks. For safety, we advise that any pets or livestock aren’t nearby during delivery.

Heating oil tank location

Tanks should be located 1.8 metres away from:

Non-fire rated building

Openings such as doors and windows

Liquid fuel and flue terminals
