Oil tank security
Minimise the risk of theft by carrying out these security measures on your oil storage tank.
Locks and lockable valves
We recommend fitting locks or lockable valves that require combinations to access your tank. You may be legally required to attach locks depending on what type of tank you have. Our bunded tanks have lockable lids and an extra tank layer. The extra tank layer can protect your tank against oil leaks. It is advisable to provide our drivers with lock combinations before delivery, if you’re away from your property and expecting an oil top up.
Storing your oil tank
Your tank should be stored in a secure but accessible place for delivery drivers and engineers. Domestic heating oil tanks can be located outdoors, indoors and underground in compliance with Building Regulations. Fire protection oil tanks can be stored inside, making it less visible to intruders.
For more information:
Fitting security lights
You may want to consider fitting security lights near the oil tank, so that when movement is detected the lights are turned on.
Installing CCTV cameras
Although the most expensive security measure, installing CCTV will allow you to monitor any authorised activity on your property and near your tank. CCTV cameras should be out of reach from potential intruders.
Smart Alert monitoring
Many of our heating oil customers have Smart Alert monitoring. We monitor your heating oil for you. This allows us to identify how much heating oil is in your tank. As soon as your tank drops below a specified level, we will schedule a prompt heating oil delivery and send you an advanced notification for confirmation.
