What is Adblue?
AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid used in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology that reacts with, and neutralises harmful NOx emissions.
Following EU Stage IV regulations that came into effect in January 2014, all new diesel engines (including tractors and combine harvesters) must meet stringent emissions standards, and SCR technology has been found to be the most effective way of doing this. The Stage IV regulations are due to be replaced by Stage V regulations in 2019-2020 which will aim to reduce emissions from diesel engines even further.
AdBlue - What to look for
When sourcing AdBlue for your tractors and off-road machinery don’t cut corners. Manufacturers recommend using solutions that meet the ISO 22241 standards and carry the AdBlue trademark. AdBlue that isn’t the right quality or is contaminated can cause irreversible damage to diesel engines.
How to store agricultural AdBlue
Storing AdBlue correctly will extend the life of the solution and keep it free of harmful contaminants. AdBlue is corrosive to metals including; iron, aluminium and copper and should never come into contact with these materials during storage. Check that tanks, nozzels, hoses and any other equipment that will come into contact with the solution are not made from these metals.
Adblue should be kept out of direct sunlight and between the temperatures of - 6°C and 25°C. When stored correctly the maximum shelf life of AdBlue is 12 months so don’t store more than you need because it will degrade over time.
